Whoa, Racism is Dead?
Posted by jdodson in informative, life, twitter post on October 14th, 2009
This post is going to have nothing to do with the title.
Do you read blogs that start out as self aware? What I mean is I often refer to this blog and the fact that I am posting. Also I tend to be “blogware” which means I tend to blog from the perspective that I blog or post from the perspective of posting. Does that ruin things for you? I am not sure I would change things if it did but I have been thinking about it some. I haven’t been thinking about it that much, but when I blog I do.
More of that blogware sort of thing happening. Perhaps I am violating the blog 5th wall or something. Or perhaps its just mostly online lame to admit you blog when you blog. Blogging being a dying art even now. Even now. Or at least that’s what I heard on some blog somewhere. I forget where I was sort of put out the site wasn’t blogware so I stopped reading it.
Obviously this post is going nowhere, but since I have text in the buffer I will click send after creating useless post tags and categorizing this post. As if that stuff mattered. In reality it doesn’t but it makes web 2.0 so happy they could tweet about drinking tea.
The Disappointment of Social Networking
Posted by jdodson in life, twitter post on July 7th, 2009
A month ago I decided to close down my Twitter account “jdodson.” I really like Twitter quite a bit. I really like tweeting my mind and reading what other people have to say in 4 or less words. I really like micro blogging. I like micro blogging outrageous and absurd things. Kind of like how I am in real life actually.
That said, I really don’t like people criticizing what I write. I figure, if you don’t like what I have to say, tweet, blog or what have you…. Then, well, I would stop consuming it. I also closed down my Facebook account for this reason as well. It seems certain people dig the fact that I am in a particular social network. I get it, I am a fun person. I write well most of the time. However, it seems often times with certain people that the more I write the more they dislike much of the material. For whatever reason.
When I keep reading stuff written by people I don’t like reading I stop. If I read enough stuff I don’t like I unsubscribe. There is a author in The Oregonian I don’t like and I don’t read his stuff anymore. No letters to the editor, I just don’t consume it. In the past with friends, often times when I don’t like what they create, its because its not what I would do. Its not my style, sense of humor or whatever else it could be at the time. This doesn’t mean what they do is wrong, it means its not me. My friend jdubb has a YouTube site of many great videos. When he first made his videos I didn’t like them as much(I love them now for what its worth) and tried to keep getting him to change them. Change the pacing, the editing, sense of humor, etc. In the end I was just trying to make his thing what I would do. I get that same impression on Social Networks from people that are connected to me. I want people to connect with me because of who I am, not what they think I should be.
Since I am not in a quest to change people and I find things that are not as much fun to not be compelling, I deleted my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I am am actually Twittering under a anonymous profile because I love it so much. Its nice to be under the cloud of Anonymity too, no one can “google me” and find some crazy screed about absurdium. I also have a “ghost blog” where I post some absolutely inane rants that are fun to write and equally hard to understand.
All told, I believe people mean well I just think if the audience doesn’t get what you do you should get a new audience. Again, its not my goal to change people. I guess I could be less outrageous but that’s not as much fun. And if its not fun I wouldn’t really do it.
The format for this blog will be mostly about my life. I am going to keep it watered down because I don’t want to offend anyone here. I see this blog as a house in a affluent and gated community. And like the best of gated communities if there is anything strange going on you would never know because outward appearances are more important than reality. And in the end I think that’s what 99% of the people that know me what to consume anyway. I think people honestly want what makes them the most comfortable and a unoffensive, toned down & “white picked fence jdodson” is what you will find here.
Enjoy.
A Few Thoughts About The Weather
Posted by jdodson in informative, twitter post on November 26th, 2008
I decided to give up on twitter for an unspecified amount of time. Yesterday I posted about a cheap album on Amazon and decided to stay away longer. Recently I purged some folk from my list. Its not that I don’t think they are great people its just that I don’t want some kinds of peoples feeds. I know some people that take personally and I understand that. Unsubscribing to a blog or twitter feed is pretty normal to do but some times it messes with people in strange ways. Swhy I prefer RSS. No one can really quantify who unsubscribed unless they are scouring IP logs.
Twitter is a fine site but it seems to breed the QUICK FAST mentality. The QUICK FAST mentality doesn’t allow for a blog post because its not QUICK FAST. I bet leaving Twitter for me is like leaving TV. When you do it your life is made better and going back is like visiting Mars, its fun but its not home.
