Feeling Better

Been out of commission lately because of “a sickness” I have had.  Some kind of ultra-cough “feel like complete junkism.”  Well I am finally calling myself out of it, or at least, I feel much better anyway.  Being run down and drained for two weeks sucks quite a bit.  I am a pretty active person and if I am out of commission I really start to get down.  Now that I am better, I am making plans and this weekend was especially fun as I hung out with some friends and Francesca.

Heres to feeling better!

Of Orthopraxy

I have been blogging for years.  My first blog was a hack dash PHP/MySQL monstrosity with just as poor HTML markup(thank you browser quirks mode).  I hacked that up in my second or third year of university and started blogging daily.  I think some people checked it, I started getting comments and things spiced up a few times when I said some things that made people angry.  In hindsight I understand that when I write things in anger it can lend to someone feeling angry.  Though, realizing more, I can’t make anyone feel anything, your feelings are your choices.

I just noted to myself I blog about blogging often.  Anywho.

I reinvented this blogging thing for myself quite a few times from what it was.  In terms of software used and tone used.  Now I mostly twitter and blog here occasionally when I must hack out sentences in strings of cohesive entities called “complex thoughts.”  TAKE THAT TWITTER USERS!

On a side-note, I really think twitter is great but it plays into this emergent United Statsean ideal which is FAST SHIT FASTER.  I guess that means something akin to: “I want everything I want now, fast and yesterday.”  Its like the kids that must have the latest and greatest rock song, so they head to the torrents.  Or someone who must eat food and not expend much energy so they head to McDonalds.  I am not saying these things are always bad, but good things… well some good things take time.  So Twitter is great and all but sometimes “complex thoughts” take time and multiple sentences to express.

So here I am.  Expressing a complex series of thoughts.

One thing I can never seem to shake with blogging is expectations.  This blog should be 100% my creation on my terms end of idea.  I mean thats what I think it should be anyway.  When I enabled comments I realized that people did in fact sway how I expressed ideas and thoughts.  So much so that occasionally I lost sleep over certain reactions to my ideas.  Which, all told, goes to show that this person, AKA myself does care about what people think odd as that may sound.

However a few weeks ago a friend I respect told me that if I didn’t curb my use of foul language he would not read my blog anymore.  At least, that was my interpretation of what he said.  Initially it didn’t really bother me that much but the more I thought about it the more it did bother me quite a bit.

I told him that id consider his point and post something “pixar” but that in the end this blog is my thing and it will be what it is.  He wasn’t telling me I must stop, he was saying if I continued hed stop reading.

The more and more I considered this the more and more I realize that my writing is an expression of myself so much that I wrap it into my ego.  Grammer and spellink mistakes inslucded.  My writing is not too far off who I am save I may make more sense in person.

I love to use profanity.  I love to use profanity because profanity is like the icing on an otherwise bland cake.  I grew up conservative.  I grew up Christian.  I grew up thinking profanity was the devils speech.  Profanity is not the devils speech unless you think that words simply in and of themselves, seperate from use are bad.  Thats like thinking a rock, in and of itself is a bad thing.  Rocks are neutral.  Rocks used in a negative context can be bad.  Like one come to your face and 50 miles per hour.  That is a rock in a bad context.  A rock sitting in your rock garden is a rock in a positive context.

Fuck.  What context did I just put that last word in?  According to people that think profanity is always bad in every way say that is negative regardless.  That is patently false.  Lets explore this more.

“Shit, that is totally awesome man!” – This is a entirely positive sentence and the usage of “shit” here is not actually meaning excrement.

I could go on but the point is made.  Words are not bad.  Words strung together in certain ways could be bad.  Lets take a few words that people don’t consider profanity such as “I”, “never” and “murder.”  Lets see how these words can be used for good or ill.

* “I will never murder another human being.”  - A very great sentence and if meant is a great life creed!

* “I murder jews because I hate them and never will love them.” – Wow, this seems like a very bad usage of those words.  I would say this person needs to re evaluate their life choices and ideas.

To end this extremely long winded box-speech post I will end on a few ideas.

Fucking A bitches!  This blog is a bad ass kick ass thing I love so fucking much it hurts.  Orthodoxy is fucked because it leads to things we do that don’t follow logic!  Orthopraxy is the shit and I would recommend it for all my motherfuckers out there!

I apologize if this means some won’t continue to read.  It is never my intent to offend, only inform.

Legend of the Green Dragon

Once upon a time many moons ago I ran a game called Legend of the Green Dragon.  It was based on an old BBS door game called Legend of the Red Dragon.  More information is at this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_of_the_Red_Dragon

I talked to a friend and decided to put up a new instance here: http://greendragon.jdodson.org

So far only a few people are playing but it is still fun.

I plan on having the game going as long as there are players!

Have fun!

Merry Whatever

Hey.  Hope you had a great holiday.  I had a pretty great Christmas.  Santa brought me a few things and I bought a few more.  I bought myself some flannel sheets and a Zelda game manual.  I am also eagerly anticipating the Doom board game.  Well that and a Doom shirt.  Why you ask?

Well I love Doom quite a bit.  Doom was one of the first games that really scared me.  I remember playing it in High School and being totally creeped out by the noises the demons made.  I mean it was also awesome to totally be able to blow away the Devil and his many minion spawn.  It was also awesome to chainsaw them too.  Funny story about that.  Some people seem to think violent video games mess up kids or something.  Well, perhaps that is true because I turned into somewhat of a pacifist.  So I guess violent video games taught me that instead of chain-sawing your foes talking does makes more sense.

I also got myself the Zelda manual because I think I want to finish it someday and don’t want to spend hours guessing what to do next in a particular dungeon.  Zelda games round 64′s Ocarina of Time seemed to get pretty strange in certain dungeons, or at least I thought it did.  I just want to play through a game, I don’t want to spend weeks figuring out some dungeon some developer thought was intuitive and wasn’t.  Please get me right, I love Zelda.  Maybe I should buy a shirt.  Maybe I will.

Nothing says celebrating the 8 nights of Chanukah like a Doom board game!  That or Christmas.  Then again I guess I could always install a Christmas mod and save baby Jesus from demons or something.  That would be awesome so if anyone sees that mod where you save baby Jesus from demons on Christmas let me know.  If you find a Chanukah mod either I would be very interested.

From one pacifist demon slayer I can honestly say, very interested indeed.

Bye, Bye Blockbuster

Francesca and I rented two movies at Blockbuster last night.  Since we are signed up for the pretty cheap blockbuster club or whatever we get one non-new rental a month.  It has paid for itself many times now and we usually go in, rent a few new releases and get the free one.  Its generally more than id like but acceptable.  We generally buy movies, we don’t rent that much.

We usually buy because buying movies is cheap compared to renting.  Now its even moreso.  We can buy like 4 movies at blockbuster for $20.  I can get movies at Stuff for $2.50 – $7.  I only buy movies I like so the price is great.  However, recently renting a new release at Blockbuster just went up to $4.99.  Its also $4.99 to rent a bluray movie, which I think is sort-of-kinda worth it but not for a DVD.  We both decided last night we were not renting from Blockbuster anymore because they just went to a really unreasonable price.

For all you netflix people out there, we don’t rent enough to justify that expense.  I also have an aversion to  a million monthy fees for non-essential entertainment services.

Awesome Walk

Went for a wall today. I wanted to figure out how to walk to OHSU and take the tram down and walk back to the office.

Figured it out and it only took 41 minutes over lunch.
