“No matter what your opinion of the various seasons of The Simpsons, you could count on a lovingly constructed DVD release full of special features, particularly audio commentaries for each episode. In skipping many seasons ahead to coincide with various Simpsons 20th Anniversary events it appears FOX (who knows who all was involved with this decision) all that goodwill has been erased with these barebones releases. The only “special feature” is an abbreviated preview of the just-aired 20th Anniversary Special. No commentaries, no animatics, no nuthin’. While the DVD version still has a full booklet with episode summaries, the Blu-ray has a tiny insert that lists only the titles. Neither has the customary Groening welcome letter. This is a blatant cash grab, I guess we’re expected to double-dip once the older seasons are finally released? I am ashamed to have purchased these releases, and the long-running staff of The Simpsons should be likewise embarrassed to have these releases sit alongside more than a decade of hilarious, feature-packed DVD sets that came before.”

I own The Simpsons on DVD. Seasons 1-10 and 12. I skipped 11 because it wasn’t on sale anywhere for less than $20. I picked up season 12 for $12. I love the show quite a bit. Always have a soft spot for The Simpsons. Seasons 1-8 id say were quite good. The remaining are good, just less good than the one before it. For instance, season 12 is fine it just has a few episodes that are fairly boring.

So after releasing season 12 they skipped to season 20. I am not really sure why they did this. Perhaps to skip to commemorating the 20th year? Since season 20 is in high def perhaps they want a bluray release as well? I am by nature a completist. I like to finish all the side quests in a game and explore the entire board in Doom The Board Game. But I am not sure that will mean I pickup all the seasons of The Simpsons. Ive had season 12 for a few months now and I am still a few episodes away from completing it. Watching The Simpsons in high def sounds good but receiving no commentary seems off. I watched every season 1-8 episode with commentary and it was really fun hearing what they had to say.
